eBay Re-Design Content and Launch Group Buying

Leading auction website eBay is due to launch a new design in coming weeks. After almost four years without amending the main display that browsers interact with, the giant company have been working for some time on improving the existing interface.

Changes to the layout and content (plus URL structure) includes a big variation in the amount of landing pages that are dynamically generated. Because the current system makes indexed pages from every filter option, the meta set-up and what we see in the SERPs is sometimes misleading from the actual on-page items for sale. The new launch is set to amend this and create a better user experience through smarter caching of the millions of individual pages.

Meanwhile eBay group gifts has become live on the US site, allowing users to group buy products by way of interacting through social media on the pages. By suggesting (a product for sale) to others wanting to purchase for the same person, people can group buy and use several credit or debit cards at the same time. The item will be delivered as per the group leaders instructions; everyone else just pays their share of the cost.

Other eBay news includes them giving Royal Mail a real slating, with the results of a poll from their online retailers revealing that 8 out of 10 are not happy with the UK’s national delivery service. This is not good news as the increase in Internet buying continues and we approach the Christmas season.
