New Google Adsense Layout

The new Google Adsense layout is being rolled out across the UK now, with many of our clients reporting having the Beta version pop-up upon log-in. We first saw this on the 2nd November 2010 and are currently running through the new features and layout, starting to get to grips. It’s always a big change when you spend a lot of time with the page view and then it completely changes. That second nature of where to click suddenly all means nothing!

First impressions are that it’s much more modern. Just like we saw with the changes to Adwords last year, the set-up is now mainly Javascript which improves from the old page refresh. You start with an overview page which runs through the basics like today’s earnings, this months earnings and earnings since your last payment.

The top menu focuses on the main categories of Home, My Ads, Allow / Block and Performance Reporting. Upon entering one of these top navigation menus you get a sub menu on the left. To be fair they have done a good job on improving the navigation.

For us the best improvement is the Ads section, which is much more clear and easy to see the different Ads you have for each channel. It’s similar in concept to the Adwords layout when you have campaigns which are broken down with variations on the keywords.

Also included is the new performance report charting which offers graphs of your income over a chosen date range. It’s much more visible than before, it helps you get a feel for the performance instead of trying to work it out in your head, or having to export and manipulate data for customers who’s ads you manage.

In terms of overall quality score and improvement on the previous version we think the new Adsense layout is great, although it’s about time they put some effort into the user interface for the network which brings in the majority of Google’s revenue.
