How can anything be easier than this? Imagine searching the internet using only your voice to enter search terms. Yes, it is now possible to search without using your fingertips. If you’ve installed this on your mobile phone then using it on your Chrome browser isn’t really much different.

How do you use it?

First of all you must have a microphone or headset active in your computer. The next thing you’ll need is have Google’s Chrome browser. You then have to install the Google Voice search application by visiting this link at the Chrome web store. After installing the application you can now go to google.com using your Chrome web browser where you would notice a microphone icon on the right hand corner of the search field.

Language is currently limited to English and after having a few tries using the voice search feature I found out that you must speak close to perfect English to get accurate results. If you’re using the built-in microphone on your laptop for example and is having a hard time getting an accurate transcription you might want to consider using a headset.

Google’s Voice Search feature provides a method for searching by speech. The feature supports yahoo, Wikipedia, You tube and Bing searcher. If you’re searching for a specific image you could say “Google images white chickens” and results would show all white chickens.

Google Voice Search – Smartphone Application

The mobile phone has certainly gone a long way from just being a tool for communication. In fact, a new breed of cell phones called “smartphones” has allowed users to use these devices much like a personal computer. Anything from watching movies to online web browsing, these smartphones have placed the power of mobile computing in the palm of our hands.

Voice recognition software is not new to mobile phones. We all know how we could start a call by using voice commands. Google’s voice search application tries to integrate these technologies in bringing software that makes it easier for people to search without using their hands.

Booth Google’s voice search application for the desktop and mobile phone are far from perfect. I really found it very amusing at first but after trying to get the accurate transcription of my search term 5 times in a row? I found that typing it directly over my keyboard took less time and saved me from a lot of frustration.
