October to November 2010 saw a social networking website pass one of the old firm search engines for traffic levels. Whilst Yahoo has pretty much stood still over the last few years, Facebook has grown in-line with the World’s love of social networking for communication and interaction.
The fact that people can send messages (much like email) through Facebook has helped replace traffic that historically would have gone to Hotmail, Yahoo or GMail. Combined with the rise of Facebook as the Global number one for keeping ‘socially’ in the-know, it was inevitable that eventually a social utility would soon mix it with the search providers for traffic.
ComScore, the US based website statistics firm, reports that Facebook is now the 3rd most visited website in the World. November was the month in which it passed Yahoo, which includes Yahoo Sports and Yahoo News channels as well.
