It’s been a while coming but the latest Google PageRank update has finally been applied, coming during June 27th. We first noticed at night when our homepage changed to PR5.
Although some people still give the page-ranking indicator an articficially high status, it seems as though Google is finally getting the message across not to concentrate too hard on the value. By waiting 6 months and applying the Panda updates instead, the message was very clear that quality was the best indicator for better rankings, not the PR of a website.
This June 2011 PageRank update comes pretty much half way through the year, and we would expect this is an indicator of bi-annual updates in coming years. Google has also suggested the PageRank toolbar could be phased out to make people focus more on quality content as oppose to back-linking.
