Paul Allen, Google Law Suit

Interval Licensing, LLC refiled a Law suit on the 27th December against Google, Facebook, Apple and other firms over copyright infringement. Earlier in December a similar claim was dismissed as not being clear enough on the issues.

The Seattle Times noted that the claim is regarding patent infringement over technology specifically on Android devices; the calling of ‘similar content’ when a user types in a query, something Allen claims to have covered in 20 patents. The law suit over this type of suggested content also applies to YouTube and Apple iTunes services.

George Clooney, Google, United Nations

Associated Press release details of a group named ‘Not On Our Watch’ started by American actor George Clooney. Teaming up with Google and a U.N. agency, the project is aimed at providing satellite surveillance to prevent a civil war between North and South Sudan. By collecting real-time images the Satellite Sentinel Project aims to offer any information gathered on the web, helping to expose the risk of violence.

Groupon Google

After rejecting a six billion dollar takeover approach from Google, Groupon founders have been the talk of the City as to how they could turn down massive personal gains. Founders stood to gain hundreds of millions each had they accepted the takeover. But figures being banded around about a massive kill-fee could explain why the owners decided to reject the offer. Groupon is still growing at a massive rate too, and apparently now has a 70% market shar with over 40 million email subscribers.

Google Honeycomb Devices- Nokia Favourites?

Despite insisting it will stick with the Symbian stroke Meego platform, Nokia has again been mentioned (this occasion via DigiTimes) as looking towards an Android or Windows platform. The limitations of its current set-up are pressuring the Finnish company to look elsewhere for solutions. The suggestion is that Google and Nokia have teamed up on the Android Honeycomb tablets. Nokia are just one of many names being mentioned over the Honeycomb tablets, along with Motorola, LG, Samsung and HTC. A Google operating system on a Nokia tablet would be a big development, considering the once largest mobile phone producers take on moving ahead with new systems.
