Google + To Be The Infrastructure

Google+ is set to be the new infrastructure for the company strategy say’s Eric Schmidt, Google’s Exec Chairman. Speaking to reporters at a media conference in California, he commented that we should now assume all Google functions would have Google+ at the core of the product.

What does this mean to us on a day to day basis? Expect to see Google+ at the heart of the search engine that around 90% of us use as default in the UK. It will also become an integral part of YouTube, meaning you can share content with friends who are online, as your Google+ account will be linked to your YouTube login

The reason why this strategy looks so sound is the fact that unlike Facebook, Google+ seems to have all bases covered:

  • Search through Google.co.uk
  • Browse video’s through the search engine or YouTube
  • Find places through maps within search or
  • Send email through the popular Gmail product
  • Share content with friends through Google Circles
  • Video chat with friends at Google Hangouts
  • Photo’s can be uploaded and shared / saved with Picasa
  • Start conversations by posting content to Google Buzz

And with all these features, Google+ will be at the centre of the strategy, with Schmidt saying: “All the products in the company will evolve the Circles function”. This means you can share with friends at any point you are using the Internet.

As Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook said earlier this week, the race to win the social networking war will be won on sharing, not users; this seems to be the exact same way that Google see the battle taking shape.

Schmidt commented on Privacy issues being ironed out before the Google+ project is rolled out to more users. The ex-CEO also said that they had been trying to talk with Twitter and Facebook about sharing data, but to no avail.
